The one thing you're forgetting is that hardware improves on a exponential rather than logarithmic curve. It's also likely that general purpose computing hardware will essentially merge with specialized hardware platforms. I would predict that both PC and console gaming will eventually be superseded by mobile gaming and set top boxes like Google TV or whatever.

I feel like I would be remiss if I didn't mention the somewhat-smillarly-themed mystery/horror anime series Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (released as "When They Cry" in English).

It's actually based on series of (non-H) visual novels. The basic premise is that the main character is a kid from Tokyo, who has moved to a tiny villiage in rural Japan. Everything seems to be going well for him until he starts to learn about a grisly series of murders that has occurred in the town coinciding with the town's big festival, scheduled to take place in a few days. His friends begin to grow increasingly threatening and erratic; as you can probably guess given that it's a horror series at heart, things don't end well.

After the somewhat-messy denouement, time rewinds to a few days before the festival again. Events repeat themselves, unfolding a little differently the second time around- a different character takes the place as the apparent villain and things transpire differently.

I'm probably not describing it that well. To be honest, it was a series I really didn't expect to like until a friend coaxed me into watching the first handful of episodes... After that, though, I was hooked, and I ended up really getting into the series.

(I feel I should say for the record that while it's far from the 26-episode slasher flick that various infamous clips would have you believe, it is a horror series and does have its' fair share of murderous 10-16-year-olds and a number of cringeworthy scenes.)
